Hometown Game Developer
Makes Stunning Solo Debut
Innovative
Design Defies Typical “Color Match” Game Formula
RALEIGH, North Carolina-May 25,
2009- Former DigiPen student
and Oasys Mobile software developer Nicholas Allen has released what
promises to become the most infamously addictive 3D puzzle game of
the App Era, without simply throwing another title onto the growing
pile of “match four” game clones . Simply
titled Cylinder,
the game operates on an unassuming premise: players match four or
more colored game pieces to remove them from the screen and earn
points. However, the added challenges of a rotating 360-degree
playing surface, rapidly falling game pieces, and incremental
increases in difficulty make Cylinder
a fast-paced, original piece of slick pop art.
When
questioned about the game's design, Allen explains that Cylinder
emerged as an answer to the flood of 3D games with 2D playing
surfaces. “360-degree game play is the idea that gave way to
the entire project,” he says. “This is my definition of
a true 3D puzzle game.” Allen also states that the inspiration
for the game's striking abstract look is drawn primarily from the
works of 20th
century painter Piet Mondrian. Rounding out the experience is an
original classical soundtrack by Kevin Allen.
Game Features:
Real-time 3D graphics with special effects, world movement, and
active scorekeeping
Endless Mode: Increasing difficulty keeps players in suspense as
they compete for longest time and high score.
Puzzle Mode: Players test their logic skills here by attempting to
remove all game pieces from the cylinder in over 30 puzzles of
varying difficulty (new puzzle downloads available monthly).
Relax Mode: It's impossible to lose in this mode! Players can take
advantage of Relax Mode by using it to practice complex techniques
and earn high scores (local high score postings help players track
their progress).
